A reminder that K to 12th grade Fall Rec Soccer will end on Nov 22nd. PreK soccer ended last weekend. Check your game schedule for Nov 22nd at http://wwpsa2.org/Schedule.asp?org=null.wwpsa2.org.

All players will receive a trophy with their team name on it as a keepsake from the team coach. Please make sure you get it and contact your coach directly if you do not.

If you have not yet performed your volunteer work please consider volunteering for one of the open positions for Nov 22nd. See http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=89070&org=null.wwpsa2.org for details. For those who have done your volunteer duty the processing of bond credits will start next week and should be completed by the middle of December.

We need your feedback and also need people to volunteer to help run Rec soccer in 2015. Please complete our survey to provide your input at http://wwpsa2.org/Survey/List.asp?org=wwpsa2.org

Note: Registration for Spring 2015 Rec soccer will start in Feb 2015.

This is probably my last email as Director of Rec. Soccer so I wish you many more years of playing soccer and creating great memories. Keep on Kicking.

Remember this is the last week of PreK soccer.

I hope you had fun this season - Keep on kicking.

November 10, 2014

As the fall season comes to an end please remember to check the game schedule for your game times. We have had changes because of the rainouts and then also because of playoffs for the 4th grade and older leagues.

Go to http://wwpsa2.org/Bulletins.asp?MyTeam=NULL&division=16185&org=wwpsa2.org and pick your division and team and then click on schedule on the left hand side of the screen to see your schedule.

All games for Nov 15th are finalized and on the site. For Nov 22nd because of playoffs the games may change from what is currently on the website based on the results of the games on Nov 15th. For these leagues if you click on the Brackets option on the left hand side you will see the possible outcome of the playoffs. The brackets by default assume the higher seed team wins the games and that obviously might not be the case.

Pre-K sessions will end on Nov 15th. Remember to get your trophy at your session. If you can't pick it up at the session email rec@wwpsa.org after Nov 15th and we will let you know how you can pick it up.

November 8, 2014

The cooler weather leads to some safety concerns:

  1. Players don't drink enough because they don't feel thirsty, please remind them to drink and keep themselves hydrated even if it is cold.
  2. Clothing choices make playing hazardous. Players can wear long underwear such as under armor under their uniforms, track suit pants, soft gloves and soft hats to keep themselves warm during games. They must never wear gloves with rivets, hard or metallic parts, must not wear baseball type hats or other hats with hard parts and must not wear hoodies or unzipped coats since these items pose a danger to both themselves and other players in games and practices. Remember soccer is a contact sport and as such things can get hooked, pulled and yanked quite easily when competing for a ball.

Photographs - the photos were all just mailed directly to you by the photographer. You should get them within a few days.

Schedule - Group training on Mon and Tue has ended. There will still be team practices and games until Nov 22nd but no more group sessions on Mon or Tue.

The older leagues (4th to 12th grade) will be starting playoffs soon and their last games will be on Nov 22nd. i.e. there will be games every Saturday through Nov 22nd, weather permitting, we just need to figure out who is playing who.

PreK soccer has been extended to make up for the rain outs and will now end on Nov 15th.

Click here for the results of our Goal Fest Tournament held on Oct 26th. Email goalfest@wwpsa.org if you want to know how to access the photographs.

October 28, 2014

As we start to move to cooler weather and have moved past the half way mark of the season I just wanted to send out an update on a few items.

Behavior - the older leagues will be start playoffs soon and with that competition tends to get more intense. That is okay but it is not okay for us change our behavior for the worst. We should continue to respect the referees, coaches, players and others at the fields and treat them kindly. Disciplining, swearing and yelling negatively at others is never appropriate and makes for an unpleasant experience for all be it by the players, parents or coaches.

Photographs - the photos you ordered at picture day will be mailed directly to you by the photographer. They should start arriving in the middle towards the end of November.

End of season parties - help your coaches out by taking the lead and plan an end of season party for your team. The players love having that final pizza party and take some work off of your team coach by volunteering to arrange it for you team.

Volunteer bonds - we will start the process of crediting volunteer bonds sometimes towards the end of November / early December. Right now we are to busy focued on running the season to focus on doing that.

Hopefully you have all had fun so far this season and learned some more about soccer.

Keep on Kicking

September 26, 2014 - PreK Players

Parents of PreK Players

As we get ready for our third week of soccer – wow almost 1/2 done already – I hope you are all having fun and your soccer players are developing their soccer skills. I have a few reminders and requests:

Arrive Early – Please arrive before the listed start time for your session. It helps us start on time and keep all the players on the same page if they are all present at the session start time. Players that arrive late tend to disrupt the flow and make it much harder on the coaches to get things going.

Attend your Session – Please attend the session you signed up for. All of the PreK sessions are very full and players have been assigned to specific groups. Coming at a different time to that you requested and were assigned to makes it difficult for the coaches and alters that player / coach ratio that was established.

Equipment – Please do not take home the WWPSA / SoccerShots / Dicks balls, pennies, cones or other equipment. The coaches have been given a specific quantity and if people take them home the coaches don’t have enough for the later sessions. We have had quite a few balls go missing so far. If you need a ball for your player to play with at home please email me at rec@wwpsa.org and we can get you a ball since we have lots from prior years in our lost and found that were never claimed.

Parking – Please drive very carefully and slowly when entering and leaving the fields since there are players crossing the road and they are hard to see because of their size.

As a reminder you can check your information at any time by following the instructions at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=88398&org=wwpsa2.org

September 26, 2014 - K to 12th Grade Players

Parents of K to 12th Grade Players

As we get ready for our third week of soccer – wow almost 1/3 done already – I hope you are all having fun and your soccer players are developing their soccer skills and enjoying the competition of playing against friends and neighbors. I have a few reminders and requests:

Arrive Early – Please arrive before the listed start time for your games or practices i.e. at the time you coached asked you to arrive. It helps the games start on time, does not rush things, allows the coaches to prepare and keeps all the players on the same page if they are all present at the start time. Players that arrive late tend to disrupt the flow and make it much harder on the coaches.

Parking – Please drive very carefully and slowly when entering and leaving the fields since there are players crossing the road and many are hard to see because of their size.

As a reminder you can check your information at any time by following the instructions at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=88398&org=wwpsa2.org

Finally a big thank you to all the coaches for volunteering and you for helping the coaches out with setting up and taking down fields and goals each week, organizing snacks for the players and most especially for your energetic support and cheering for all the players.

Keep on Kicking

September 13, 2014

The first day of soccer as come and gone. The weather was perfect and we got all the games in before the rain started. Hopefully it all went well and everyone had fun. We have heard about some issues related to games double booked on fields, cars get locked inside the field, field lining and goal net issues that we need to address. If you could please let us know the specifics of any issues that you noticed so we can look into addressing them before next week.

As a reminder we have optional Youth Recreational Group Training Sessions starting on Monday, September 15, 2014, and ending on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The sessions on Mondays will be at Conover Park and on Tuesday will be at West Windsor Community Park. Each day will have three sessions 5 to 6 pm , 6 to 7 pm and 7 to 8 pm. You may attend any session, no need to RSVP, just show up at the session you want to attend.

September 11, 2014 and September 12, 2014 Information Emailed

Welcome to Fall 2014 Soccer. We are ready to start on Saturday Sept 13.

Here are my thoughts and updates for you as a parent and player. Sorry it is long but is a lot to cover and I’m sure there is probably something I’ve left out.

Safety should be everyone’s number one priority followed by everyone having fun. Let the players play hard and enjoy ourselves, coaches’ coach, and referee be the decision maker so everyone can go home safely in one piece from every game and practice. For this reason there is no slide tackling of any form allowed in recreational soccer.

Remember this if a recreational league and we should act as such. Also every player should get to play at least 50% of each game except in the case of injury.

Parking and Traffic: For the safety of the children, please only park in designated parking areas. Do not obstruct the traffic flow, drive slow and carefully, and please park close to the other cars so there is enough space for everyone. Are over 1,000 players on 98 teams – it means a lot of people and cars lets be safe and courteous to each other.

Uniform Distribution: If your ordered a WWPSA uniform kit and have not yet collected it you will be able to pick it up on Saturday, September 13, 2014 between 7:30 am and 10 am at the soccer house located at 36 Everett Dr, West Windsor Township, NJ 08550 (off of Clarksville Road West Windsor). It is the house by itself in the field between the West Windsor Municipal Complex and the Fire Station on the same side of Clarksville Road as the fire station and across Everett Drive from the West Windsor Municipal Complex. Please park in the Municipal Park lot and walk across the road to collect your uniform. The distribution will be held rain or shine. This is the last chance to get your uniform.

Team Assignment and Schedules: You can view them by following the instructions at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=88398&org=wwpsa2.org. You have to log in to see them, if you don’t log in you will not see them.

Practice Schedules: A reminder that practices are as follows:

  • PreK has just the specific session the player signed up for.

  • K to 3rd grade have combine practice and game session on Saturday mornings.

  • 4th to 12th grade teams have a weeknight practice session and Saturdays are just games.

We will be offering group practice sessions on Monday and Tuesday evenings start on Monday Sept 15. Details will be sent out separately shortly.

Game Schedules: Are now posted on the website – sometimes they do change so always check and make sure you know where to go and when. Note: on the game schedule all fields are booked for 2 hours blocks. You will start at the start time but your session will finish before the 2 hours is up. See the laws of the Game below for how long your particular leagues games or sessions run.

Alerts: If you have signed up for alerts the system will notify you of any changes and also send you a reminder of upcoming events. Please use the RSVP function to let your coaches know if you will be or not be attending – it helps them plan.

Bye Weeks: Some leagues have an odd number of teams. If you see a game on your schedule against BYE WEEK it means you do not have a game against another team that week. Your coach will let you know if your team will have a practice session and team scrimmage or other activity on those days.

Start Times: For Sept 13th you should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your start time to park and be able to find your field. We will all be confused on the first day so this extra time is need.

  • For PreK and K to 3rd grade, the time on the schedule is the time that practice starts
  • For 4th grade to 12th grade the time on the schedule it is the time the game should start (i.e. kick-off). Check with your coach what time he wants you to arrive to warm-up and be ready to kick-off. Most coaches want you to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the kick-off schedule time.

Field Locations within each Park: Please refer to the field layouts posted at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=122360&org=wwpsa2.org

Hopefully all fields will be lined and ready to go, however please be understanding if they are not fully ready. We can still play but will use cones to mark the fields if needed.

Laws of the Game: The laws for each specific league are posted at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=119083&org=wwpsa2.org. Please read them to be familiar with your leagues game format and specific laws.

Uniforms, Shin Guards, Cleats and Jewelry

  • Home team wears white - You are the home team if you are the first team listed or if the schedule states “vs” [another team’s name]
  • Away team wears green - You are away if you are the second team listed on the schedule or if the schedule states “at” [another team’s name]
  • It is a good idea to have them bring both shirts to games.
  • Players must wear shin guards and they must be worn under the socks, cleat are highly recommended.  No jewelry or hard casts.
  • PreK players can wear either the green or white shirt.

Water/Drinks: Players should bring water/drinks to games and practices. It gets hot playing soccer and we don’t want them getting dehydrated.

Referees: 4th to 12th grade teams have referees for their Saturday games. Please respect the referees, remember many of them are still children and you should abide by the rule that as I tell teams I coach – Q: When is it a handball? A: When the referee says it is. Yes it might not be the right call but if we accept it as the right call it reduces the stress and makes life a lot more fun for everyone.

Goal Safety: Goals are big, heavy, and dangerous. They can and will fall over if not properly used. A player been struck in the head by a falling goal can suffer serious injury or be killed. Never let players hang on, do pull ups on or climb on any goal. If we teach them young they will hopefully follow that rule for the rest of their life. Only use the big goals (7x21 foot or 8x24 foot) if they are properly anchored and weighed down with sand bags. The small 5x10 foot goals that the PreK through 3rd graders use and that are at the practice field are small and balanced and therefore do not need to be weighed down. All goals should be put away at the ends of games and practices. See our Goal Safety item at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=100168&org=wwpsa2.org for details.

Locks: Many items are locked with combination locks for protection and safety. Your coaches and league managers can open them in the case of a need or emergency.

Communication: Our primary form of communication is email. If you are not getting our emails see http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=88398&org=wwpsa2.org on how to edit your account and opt into receiving our emails. Also check your spam – we do send a lot of emails and so sometimes are considered spam.

Cancelation Procedure: If weather or other reasons require a program wide cancelation or field closures, the cancelation will be posted on http://www.wwpsa2.org and/or emailed as follows:

  • Saturdays: Cancelations will be posted on the website by 8:00 am
  • Weeknights: Cancelations and field closures will be posted on the website by 3:00 pm on the day of the session
  • Individual Team Practices: Cancelations by the team coach will be communicated directly by the coach to players on the team.
  • Please check both the http://www.wwpsa2.org website and your email for cancelations before going to the fields.

Lightning Policy: In the event that anyone, including players, coaches, volunteers, trainers, or parents hears thunder or sees lightning, all participants must leave the field and seek shelter for a period of at least 30 minutes after the thunder or lightning was last detected. If, while waiting, another lightning strike is seen or thunder is heard, the 30-minute mandatory waiting period must start again.

QuestionsFirst contact your league manager for specific questions about your league. See http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=86040&org=wwpsa2.org for contact information for them and others.

I think that is everything but if I missed something feel free to email me. Please excuse any typos, poorly worded items, or grumpiness it has been quite a few nights of very little sleep to get us ready and now I need to do my paying job so please don;t expect a response until late tonight to any emails you send me.

Let’s make my last season doing this a safe and fun one. I’m retiring from running rec. soccer at the end of this season and to that end we are looking for people to help run and shape recreational soccer going forward. If you are interested in getting involved please let me know.

Remember safety first and please respect the referees and volunteers who are making this all happen.

Keep on kicking

September 11, 2014 Email #1

We are slowly and surely getting ready for recreational soccer games to start on Saturday Sept 13.

All team assignment have been completed Are about 40 players that we will need to assign don't worry we will be getting to any players we missed on Thursday and Friday.

Games schedules are still in a state of flux so don't bother looking at them yet. We are still creating checking and have to revise them to ensure games are not double booked on the same field and have appropriately aged teams playing each other. Just over a 1000 players and 100 teams - it takes a lot of work to match it all up correctly.

We will email everyone when the game schedules are completed.

You can check you team assignment and schedule by following the instructions at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=88398&org=wwpsa2.org. Make sure you log in - if you don;t log in you will not be able to see the information.

We are slowly and surely getting ready for recreational soccer games to start on Saturday Sept 13.

Team assignment have been completed for all leagues except for Boys Kindergarten and Girls Kindergarten & 1st grade. Unfortunately due to a lack of volunteers it is taking longer than planned and therefore we are later than I would have liked with this information. We hope to have all league done by late Wed / early Thursday.

Games schedules are done for some but not all leagues. We are also working on completing those.

You can check you team assignment and schedule by following the instructions at http://wwpsa2.org/Page.asp?n=88398&org=wwpsa2.org. If you are not yet assigned to a team or don't see you game schedule don't worry we are still checking the data and will be getting to any players we missed.
